Mascentli by Fernada Pineda and Veronica Huitron

Mascentli

Designed by Fernanda Pineda + Veronica Huitrón for Tumbiko Award 2019

This piece is inspired by the aesthetics and diversity of corn in Mexico. Each grain represents a color of corn, yellow, black, white and red. When mixed, they make up the texture of the different types that exist in Mexico. The importance that relies on the corn is reflected in our cultural base not only gastronomically but also historically. Which should be highlighted through a tribute being represented by its peculiar and unrepeatable shape and hue among its grains.

This proposal takes up this pre-Hispanic plant and seeks to reinterpret it to contemporary identity. The user will connect with their roots bearing the texture of the corn leaf frontally, through three intersected lines. And each pearl will resemble the beauty of each grain, suspended by a line that will stylize it.
